昨日、人生で初めて「大きな地震」を経験した。 揺れに気づく前にスマホのアラートが鳴ったんだけど、 危機感が薄く"もう一回寝ようかな～"と迷ってしまってた。

でも揺れが始まった瞬間、一気に現実に引き戻された。不謹慎だとは思うが、地震の恐怖と初めての経験という高揚感があった。閉じ込められたくないと思い、ドアを全部開け、机の下に隠れ、揺れが収まった後はすぐ逃げられるよう水と上着を準備した。

一方で、ルームメイトは東倭国大震災を経験しており、 落ち着いてニュースを開き、状況を冷静に把握していた。 自分は焦りの中で小中学校で習ったことを思い出して動いていたのに対し、彼は経験から最適な行動を判断し、行動しているように感じた。

今日、防災グッズを揃えに行ったときも、彼と自分で備えに対する危機意識の差があったように感じた。

「知識」と「経験」は全くの別物と頭でわかっていながら、行動からも感じた瞬間だった。

Yesterday, I experienced a “big earthquake” for the first time in my life. My phone alert went off before I even felt the shaking, but honestly, I didn’t feel much danger. I even thought, Maybe I can go back to sleep.
But the moment the shaking started, everything changed. It may sound inappropriate, but along with the fear, there was also a strange sense of adrenaline from experiencing something new.

I opened all the doors so I wouldn’t get trapped, hid under a desk, and after the shaking stopped, prepared water and a jacket so I could leave at any time.

Meanwhile, my roommate who lived through the 2011 earthquake calmly opened the news, assessed the situation, and acted calmly. I reacted by recalling what I learned in school, while he acted based on real experience. The difference felt significant.

When we went to buy emergency supplies today,

I could still feel that gap in our sense of preparedness.
It was a moment when I truly realized not just in my head but through my actions that “knowledge” and “experience” are completely different things.
