登校の道すがら、ふと視界に飛び込んできたのは、石の上に腰を下ろした先輩の姿だった。彼女はゆったりとたい焼きを頰張り、湯気を吐きながら、まるでこの冬の景色を独り占めしているかのように見えた。

There was no sign of any taiyaki crumbs that ought to have lingered around her mouth. Her form was simply clear and refreshing, bathed in the winter sunlight. The way she polished off that hot treat so quickly—perhaps that's the true delight of midwinter. The snow-covered path, just for today, didn't feel the least bit tedious. If anything, in this quiet morning air, it even seemed as though some faint premonition was lurking beneath the surface, stirring a subtle sense of anticipation.
