解説:
複合関係形容詞 whichever は、直後の名詞を修飾して、「〜するどちらの…でも」 または 「たとえどちらの…が〜しようとも」 という意味を表します。これも選択肢が限定的な場合に使われます。
1. 名詞節 (〜するどちらの…でも)
whichever + 名詞 全体で、文中で主語、目的語、補語となり、any... that (〜するどちらの…でも) と同じ意味になります。
- 主語になる:
- Take whichever route is fastest. (どちらのルートが最も速いにしても、それを取れ。)
- You can choose whichever car you prefer. (あなたが好むどちらの車でも選んでいい。)
