彼女は紅茶を淹れ、静かに茶碗を差し出してきた。その仕草はどこか不器用で、しかし心のこもったものだった。私はそれを手に取り、一瞬、目の前の光景が幻のように思えた。外はまだ真冬の吹雪が荒れ狂っているというのに、ここではまるで穏やかな春の庭園にいるかのように、ゆったりとしたティータイムが広がっている。暖炉の炎が部屋を優しく照らし、彼女の白いドレスが淡く揺れる中、そんな非現実的な安らぎが、私の凍えた心を少しずつ解きほぐしていくのを感じた。
「下手な腕前で、口に合うかどうかわかりませんが、この時間の間でも楽に休んでいてください」
彼女の声は控えめで、どこか照れくさそうだった。客をもてなすというよりは、母親がわが子に温かく接するような、自然で親しみのある響きがあった。それが、私の胸に不思議な懐かしさを呼び起こした。彼女の後ろで揺れる尻尾――最初は威圧的にさえ見えたそれが、今では彼女の内面的な優しさの表れのように思えてくる。茶碗を口に近づけると、ほのかな甘い香りが鼻腔に広がり、寒さで固くこわばっていた体が、ゆっくりと溶けていくようだった。あの森の秘密が、この一杯に込められているのかもしれない。そんな予感が、静かな部屋に満ちる温もりとともに、私の心を満たしていった。

She brewed the tea and quietly offered me the cup. Her movements were somewhat awkward, yet imbued with genuine warmth. As I took it in my hand, for a brief moment, the scene before me felt like an illusion.
Outside, a fierce winter blizzard still raged, but here, it was as if we were in a tranquil spring garden, enveloped in a leisurely teatime. The flames from the fireplace softly lit the room, and amidst the gentle sway of her white dress, I sensed that surreal peace gradually thawing my frozen heart.
"I'm not very skilled at this, so I'm unsure if it will suit your taste, but please take it easy and rest during this time."
Her voice was subdued, carrying a touch of shyness. It wasn't the tone of hosting a guest so much as the natural, affectionate warmth of a mother tending to her child. This evoked a peculiar nostalgia in my chest. The tails swaying behind her—which had initially seemed almost intimidating—now appeared as a manifestation of her inner gentleness. As I brought the cup to my lips, a faint sweet aroma wafted through my nostrils, and my body, rigid from the cold, felt as though it was slowly melting away. Perhaps the secrets of that forest were infused into this single cup. Such a premonition filled my heart, alongside the warmth that permeated the quiet room.
