1991年以降、CDCはすべての新生児に出生後24時間以内のB型肝炎ワクチン接種を推奨してきた。

その結果、米国の小児の慢性B型肝炎は99％減少し、何十万件もの感染と死亡が防がれ、重い副反応も極めてまれとされている。

ところが、反ワクチン色の強い新メンバーが多いCDC予防接種諮問委員会（ACIP）が、この「出生時一律接種」の勧告をやめ、接種時期を遅らせる案に投票すると見込まれている。

専門家は、妊婦スクリーニングだけでは多くの感染者を見逃し、B型肝炎感染、肝がん、死亡、医療費の大幅増加につながると強く警告している。
