そしてRobyさん、テランスとディオンの関係についてのあなたの直感、そして観察は、本当にその通りです。Kojiさんをはじめ、翻訳チームや脚本チームの皆さんと話してきた内容とも、まったく同じ考えでした。ザンブレクには、同性愛への偏見のようなものは一切ありません。二人が関係を“少しだけ”隠しているのは、純粋に軍の序列や立場といった事情からであって、ディオンが同僚の兵士と親しくしているとなれば、竜騎士団やザンブレク宮廷の威信に関わる可能性がある――そういう理由のほうが大きいんです。
とはいえ、これは“公然の秘密”だと思っています。周りも分かった上で、無理に隠しているわけではありません。ただ、万が一なにか問題が起きたときに、最低限の「言い逃れ」ができるようにしている、というだけなんです。実際、竜騎士団の皆はみんな知っています。シルヴェストルもアナベラも、もちろん気づいています。ただ、二人の関係は彼らにとって利益にならない。だから肯定はしません。彼らは自分の利益と野心しか考えていない、そういう“生き物”ですから。
とはいえ、ディオンは“高貴な生まれ”――まあ、正確には少し違う部分もありますが、それでも宮廷では高い地位を代表する存在であり、一方のテランスは軍の中で自らの力で最高位にまで上り詰めた職業軍人です。だからこそ難しさはある。でも、越えられない壁ではありません。二人が示している通り、互いを深く愛しているからこそ、関係をしっかりと築けているんです。」

And Roby, your inkling, your observation regarding Terence and Dion’s relationship is absolutely spot on. Every conversation I’ve had with Koji, with everyone in the translation team and the script team, absolutely echoes this sentiment. There seems to be no hint of homophobia or anything really in Sanbreque. It’s purely the idea that they’re hiding their relationship, slightly, I think, because of rank and circumstances within the military, which might undermine the Dragoons and the Sanbreque court to have Dion fraternizing with one of his fellow soldiers. I think that is more of the concern for them.
I do think it’s an open secret. I think people know about it. I don’t think they’re at pains to hide it. But I think it’s more (about) keeping up with appearances and making sure that they can at least have deniability should any issues arise.
But really, all the dragoons know. Silvestre and Anabella? They know, definitely, but it’s just one of those (things) where it doesn’t benefit them. That relationship doesn’t benefit them. So, do they approve of it? No, because they’re selfish beings and selfish creatures, and think of only themselves and their own ambitions. So, that’s them.
But yeah, it’s absolutely just - Dion is high born… well, sort of, but at least represents a higher status in the court, and Terence is a military professional who’s worked his way up to the very highest rank he can be. So it’s just difficult, but not insurmountable, as is clearly demonstrated by the two of them, making it work, because they love each other so much.” December 12, 2025
